Excessive watering can lead to poor growing conditions and disease.. It is best to water your grass in the early morning as it minimizes the water lost through evaporation and wind. Watering, especially in the summer months is important, as the blades may dry out throughout the day. Check out our general sod care guide under our "Services" tab for further information.
In extended hot, dry periods of time, a lawn may wilt, turn brown, and become dormant. It will return to its luscious green state when regular moisture conditions return as long as you are watering regularly. A healthy lawn can survive several weeks in a dormant state. If your new sod is installed in the summer months, you may need to supplement your watering with additional hoses and sprinklers to ensure the roots become established. You may not always be able to rely on the irrigation system for watering the freshly installed lawn, alone. For more information on watering schedules or any questions regarding watering your lawn, please call the office for further direction. You may also visit our "Services" tab for more information.
Keeping the mower blade sharp can help prevent this from happening. Mowing with a dull blade tears the ends of the grass blades, leaving rugged ends which later turn brown. This is what is giving the lawn a dried-out or burnt look. Damaged blades of grass can also encourage the spread of fungus disease.
Grass cut at a height of 6-8 cm or 2.5-3 inches will develop a deep, extensive root system, grow thicker and better retain soil moisture.
We recommend contacting your lawn care specialist to inquire about fertilization and weed control after your sod has been installed and established.
